Located at Potomac Shores in Prince William County, Virginia, Cockpit Point is one of the Civil War’s best-preserved historic battery sites. Operational for only 5 months during 1861 through 1862, Confederate troops manned the battery to restrict shipping traffic along the Potomac River. Today, the area around Cockpit Point is flush with bald eagle activities.
