Located within the Potomac Shores community in Prince William County, Virginia is one of the Civil War’s best-preserved historic battery sites. Operational for only 5 months during 1861 through 1862, Confederate troops manned the Cockpit Point Battery to restrict shipping traffic along the Potomac River. Today, the area around Cockpit Point is flush with bald eagle activities.
